The Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 Schedule of Events

Starting today, all the regional and overseas candidates will arrive in Manila to join the NCR entries to begin their Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 journey. While the past 48 hours or so have been marred by the stinging effects of Typhoon Glenda, everyone needs to move on and get back on track. The pre-pageant activities have been finalized and compared to recent editions, this year has actually been met with a little more excitement and anticipation.

IMG_474977723339956

This early, I have a feeling one of the delegates from abroad could take it all the way and succeed Angeli Dione Gomez as the country’s representative to Miss Tourism International 2014 in Malaysia. But will the likes of Glennifer Perido and Cristine Cheeny Racel allow that to happen without giving a stiff fight? And will Koreen Medina wear a sash that could possibly hint on a newly-acquired pageant franchise if ever?

Let’s see what new developments Mutya ng Pilipinas has in store for all of us to witness. :-)

Miss World 2013 Megan Young on the pages of Women's Health Magazine

The TV spots are running in full over at GMA-7 on a regular basis. In fact, the above video can be seen at least once in every primetime program of the network, plus a healthy frequency during the highly-rated afternoon soaps.

This only means that Miss World Philippines 2014 will go on full swing mode next month. The exact finals date has not yet been finalized, but it will definitely air either last week of August or very early September.

And Miss World 2013 Megan Young is visibly excited to find out who will vie for the national crown she has beautifully held for one year.

Your blogger will definitely cover the whole nine yards. Stay stuck for all the highlights, sidelights and spotlights of the competition. ;-)

wpid-img_11341133780289.jpeg First things first. The date of the finals has been set. Miss World Philippines 2014 will be crowned on September 21 to be telecast over at GMA-7.

But before that happens, let it be known that the deadline for submission of entries has been extended till Monday, August 11. So if you have the right qualifications to join this year’s competition, download the application form from the website and have it completed/submitted before the said date. Then drop by the Miss World Philippines Secretariat at Unit 1804 of Pearl Bank Centre, Valero St. Salcedo Village, Makati City (Contact numbers: (02) 533-7470 or 63 918 9301278).

Who knows? You could be one of those who will join the likes of Valerie Weigmann, Lorraine Kendrickson and Rachel Peters during the screening. And if you make it through, the already-seeded Alexa Kirby will be a fellow candidate. ;-)

IMG_5345830419536 One (or hopefully two) of the thirty (30) hopefuls (watch their video invitations below) of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 will have a life-changing experience tonight once the winners of the beauty pageant are announced at the Grand Ballroom of Solaire Resort & Casino. With both of last year’s titleholders (Koreen Medina and Angeli Dione Gomez) around to give their farewell walk, I’m still expecting some sort of announcement about having two crowned winners with a new international competition to make up for the transfer of Miss Intercontinental to BPCI. Fingers crossed for that!

Diva Montelaba: Will the GMA-7 TV actress bite the pageant bug for 2014?

Diva Montelaba: Will the GMA-7 TV actress bite the pageant bug for 2014?

image

The whispers are no longer hushed. The buzz is getting louder by the day. Rumor has it that GMA-7 actress Diva Montelaba is possibly considering taking a new route different from her showbiz career – she is currently in the cast of the top-rating teleserye “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real” (The Two Mrs. Reals) – and that is to join the beeline for Miss World Philippines 2014.

There are also floating talks that Ms. Cory Quirino could be shying away from mestizas and mixed-race Filipinas for this year and is leaning towards a very Pinay-looking candidate for Miss World 2014. And this kind of chika tends to augur well for dear Diva. I’ve witnessed the blossoming of her career – from being a Starstruck runner-up all the way to becoming an excellent jazz/hip-hop dancer (who also sings on the side) and a competent dramatic performer. And if schedules won’t be a problem with her taping commitments, there is a good chance we might see her jumping to a new direction now instead of 2015.

Is KF (possibly in coordination with GMA Artist Center) ready to field this 5’8″-ish stunner? Or is there another beauty from the network (watch out for my blog on that tomorrow) being eyed to take part instead? ;-)

Trust Ms. Cory Quirino to fill the SM Mall of Asia Arena for the Coronation Night of Miss World Philippines 2014 on October 12. While the Official Candidates have not yet been announced – let alone screened – she will definitely undertake to make this year her biggest production for the nationals. With the outgoing titleholder being Miss World 2013 Megan Young, there is simply no room for a ho-hum conduct of the finals.

And with GMA-7’s help, the pageant will definitely get a boost in terms of scope and coverage. Do I see Mikael Daez (Megan’s rumored boyfriend) solo-hosting? I doubt it, but if he is joined by Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana, why not?

Watch out for my coverage of Miss World Philippines 2014 starting very soon! :-D

Neil will portray himself in an upcoming episode of “Magpakailanman” on GMA-7.

Very soon, Misters of the Philippines-International 2014 Neil Perez will be leaving for Seoul, Korea to represent the Philippines in Mister International 2014. With the male contest taking more than two weeks of pre-pageant activities before the scheduled finals night on October 18, our Police Officer will have his hands full outshining the other foreign delegates and aiming to bring home the crown to his countrymen.

In the meantime, Neil will play himself in an upcoming episode of Magpakailanman on GMA-7 where his life story will be featured. He used his amateur acting skills in scenes with veteran actress Irma Adlawan, teen actors Kristoffer Martin and Vincent Magbanua (who played the young Neil Perez).

By next week, our rep will be busy as a bee preparing his wardrobe and travel essentials, as well as doing some last-minute Q&A polishing with his trainer Macoy Manlapaz.

Looking forward to seeing Neil in Mister International 2014! ;-)

The girls waiting backstage before their stage appearances

Once more, Tropical Storm Mario wreaked havoc on the planned out-of-town schedule of the Miss World Philippines 2014 Official Candidates. Instead of leaving for the swimsuit competition in Caramoan Island, the ladies had to actually take a rain check and wait for the weather to improve. So as not to waste their time here in Manila, a TV guesting was added for the weekend where all twenty-six of them trooped to the GMA-7 studio of the musical variety show ‘Sunday All-Stars’ to promote the beauty competition. Two of the male hosts – Christian Bautista and Andre Paras – were able to interview some of the hopefuls, including Lorraine Kendrickson, Valerie Weigmann, Nicole Donesa, Alexa Kirby and Kristin Estoque, much to the delight of the pageant fans in the audience.

Tonight, “Magpakailanman” on GMA-7 will air “PNP Pogi na Pulis: The PO2 Mariano Flormata Jr. Story” which will have Neil playing his adult self together with acting veterans Roi Vinzon and Irma Adlawan (playing his parents) and Kristoffer Martin (as the teenage Neil).

Tune in at around 8:00PM (give or take five minutes or so) to catch it. ;-)

Sunday Specials: Could Lindsay Chetaud be the future of Bb. Pilipinas?

Lindsay Chetaud is 15-going-16, but already showing lots of beauty queen potentials

image Lindsay Chetaud is still young – fiddling between 15 and 16 – but looks so much like a full-blown woman ready to take on the world in the palm of her hands.

Unlike some ‘halfies’, this young lass is triple-hyphenated. French-Portuguese-Filipina. And among the showbiz efforts I read, she actually auditioned for Pinoy Big Brother Teens, the Palmolive Circle of 10 and was recently in the Philippine International Motor Show for Nissan X-Trail.

ABS-CBN’s Star Magic might have already jumped the gun in signing her up. And if she does not shoot to popularity like Bea Alonzo between now and 2017, there just might be a good chance that she will go the pageant route. The unique thing about her is that she has already done work for TV5 (Artista Academy) and GMA-7 (Station ID) prior. So it’s Kapamilya or bust or future Bb. Pilipinas, perhaps?

image

Will Lindsay become a showbiz star before she even she gets to take a pageant dip?

What fate awaits this girl, Lindsay? :-)

Teresita Sen Marquez? Try WynWyn Marquez

Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidate #34 Teresita Sen Marquez, aka Wynwyn Marquez

Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidate #34 Teresita Sen Marquez, aka Wynwyn Marquez

wynwyn21 Showbiz personalities joining beauty pageants is always a newsworthy item for reporters and entertainment writers. And why not? There is a heightened level of interest in an individual’s capacity to invade an almost-parallel industry to find out if she is cut out for the demands of the new environment. In the past, Sharmaine Ruffa Gutierrez proved that it was possible for a relatively popular actress to join Bb. Pilipinas, win a crown and then return to the glamor and glitz of TV and Movies.

Enter Teresita Sen Marquez. Teresita who, some might ask. Well, try WynWyn Marquez and there is greater possibility of identifying the person right away. The GMA-7 exclusive artist who – in the past number of years – dabbled in dancing and acting on the small screen, has already penetrated the national pageant. She is now Binibini 34 of Bb. Pilipinas 2015, courtesy of Aces & Queens.

And mind you, WynWyn is not coming in without sufficient pedigree tucked under her belt. Apart from being the daughter of Actor/Comedian Joey Marquez and former Actress Alma Moreno, she is the niece of Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez. She may not have the towering height of her aunt, but there will always be the potential to follow footsteps and see if the same fate could also be in the offing for her. Besides, the young Marquez used to do ballet before specializing in jazz dancing, so that should serve some good purpose in her moves and posture.

image

Binibini 34 Teresita Sen Marquez

What lies ahead for WynWyn in the pageant? It’s still hard to tell at this point. But if she can show the strong will and determination to win (and put them into action), then there might just be something in the horizon for her. ;-)

Shots from my interview with GMA-7's Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho

Priceless reaction from your blogger

Priceless reaction from your blogger

Yesterday, a meeting was arranged with Ayen, one of the Segment Producers of the Sunday night magazine show on GMA-7 “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” (One At Heart, Jessica Soho) for a TV interview. They are making a feature on the love of Filipinos for beauty pageants and Miss Universe in particular, hence, the need for a ‘pageant expert’. Focus was on our bet, MJ Lastimosa, and her chances of winning our country’s 3rd Miss Universe crown.

I’m the type of person who loves answering questions in public, especially if the topic is something I love the most. So obviously, the one throwing in all the questions got more than what she bargained for, even if I’m sure that only snippets of the 15-minute one-to-one will be used for the actual show.

The episode should air this coming Sunday (around 7:45pm) over GMA-7. The special is in anticipation of the 63rd Miss Universe Pageant Finals on Monday morning, Manila time. Otherwise, they might use the interview footages for a planned dedicated profile for MJ Lastimosa herself, after the pageant.

More shots from the interview which should hopefully air on TV this coming Sunday night

Your Binibini 34 Wyn Marquez

Your Binibini 34 Wyn Marquez

When Teresita Sen “WynWyn” Marquez screened for, qualified and got pinned as Binibini 34 in Bb. Pilipinas 2015, not a few eyebrows were raised by the decision. Here is a showbiz personality who has a TV career that – while not on top of the game – has remained active and constantly involved in a string of projects that honed her talents in acting and dancing. She never runs out of assignments. Of late, she has been typecasted in villainess roles – a character 180 degrees from how down-to-earth she is in real life.

Nowadays, Wyn’s life has been relatively more relaxed compared to her hectic showbiz schedules. The physical demands of the pageant are nothing compared to the overnight tapings and daily rehearsals at GMA-7. And that helps her maintain a more beautiful and fully-rested aura. Will she nail a win in the March 15 finals? We’ll see…

Know more about Wyn by watching this interview she had with Tim Yap during the latter’s midnight show. ;-)

Miss World 2013 Megan Young has never had this long a time to relax and move on with life

image

Just waiting for the right time to reveal her next projects, Megan is.

After more than a year of constant traveling, personal appearances and international charity fund-raising, Miss World 2013 Megan Young has never had this long a break to enjoy life as a normal individual or a typical celebrity. And she’s every single bit enjoying the free time in her hands.

But not for long, I reckon.

Aside from shooting new commercial and print endorsements, there are strong rumors that she just might make a big comeback to her original home network – GMA-7 – where the buzz is that she will do a remake of the hit Mexican telenovela “MariMar” or “Rosalinda” that made big stars out of Marian Rivera and Carla Abellana, respectively. In addition, there are talks that she will be paired with real-life boyfriend actor Mikael Daez who is an exclusive contract artist of the same network.

If this news item turns out to be true, then this could be Megan’s biggest Philippine showbiz break after having been part of both ABS-CBN and TV5 before becoming Miss World.

image

Rumor has it that Megan will make a grand return to GMA-7

And for those who will cry that she should no longer return to where she started, well, life in showbiz is just like a round of rigodon de honor. Since our Queen hasn’t really resorted to burning bridges, then she can always come back and get a more attractive contract. ;-)

Miss World 2013 Megan Young is now a Primetime Lead Actress as the new MariMar

Miss World 2013 Megan Young has now officially entered a new phase in her life as a celebrity. After the recent announcement of the cast members of GMA-7’s remake of MariMar, she has been ushered in to the role of a Primetime lead starrer that will pair her with Hunk actor Tom Rodriguez.

It remains to be seen how she will approach the role made famous by Mexican actress Thalia and the beautiful Marian Rivera. But based on the video clip below, she still wants to inject her own brand of charm for the role so as not to be totally compared with her predecessors. She will definitely watch the original and the first local remake, but just so that she will get a good feel of what the role will fully require of her.

If I were to second-guess the reason behind the photos of Miss World 2013 Megan Young in the waters of San Juan, La Union, she could be getting test shots for her upcoming lead role in GMA-7’s “MariMar” remake of a remake.

And our girl is definitely in her elements doing these poses for Erika Yamaguchi. Some of you might ask what the dead giveaway could be. It’s the curls on her hair that is a trademark of the original MariMar – Thalia.

The series will premiere this 3rd Quarter so taping dates for the same are already properly penciled on the production schedule.

Good luck, Megan! :-)

You can see below the physical and emotional challenges that their beautiful trainees had to go through just to achieve an all-around pageant-ready body, mind and heart.

It’s true what the ladies would say. Pageantry is not all glamour and glitz. Beneath the beautiful gowns, crowns and all, there is a punishing road ahead to get to the intended target – a national crown.
